Colonic Atresia

چکیده
Introduction Atresia of the colon is an uncommon entity distinct from congenital pouch colon, which is a more frequent occurrence in India and Asia, and is associated with anorectal malformations. Although the underlying cause of colonic atresia may be vascular insufficiency, the association with Hirschsprung’s disease, in particular, and the gross discrepancy between the proximal and distal bowel diameters militate against management strategies described for small bowel atresias.

Colonic Atresia and Stenosis: Our Experience
BACKGROUND Colonic atresia and stenosis are rare entities. On average 1 case per year of colonic atresia is being seen in most of pediatric surgical centers and to date less than 10 cases of colonic stenosis have been reported. MATERIAL AND METHODS The medical record of patients of colonic atresia and stenosis managed during March 2006 to March 2010 was reviewed. RESULTS A total of 15 patie...
متن کامل“Inverse Type” Apple-Peel Syndrome Is Associated with Type III Colonic Atresia in a Neonate with Gastroschisis—A “New” Subtype of Colonic Atresia
The colon is an unusual site of intestinal atresia. Colonic atresia is subdivided into three phenotypes. Type III is the most common phenotype, where the proximal and distal blind sacs are not connected. Here, we report on the presence of colonic atresia with an “inverse apple-peel” appearance in a neonate with gastroschisis. The lack of mesenteric fixation of the entire small intestine, includ...
متن کاملPyloric Atresia in Association with Multiple Colonic Atresias in a Neonate: An Unreported Association
Pyloric atresia is rare cause of gastrointestinal obstruction in neonates and usually occurs as an isolated anomaly. They have been associated with multiple small bowel and colonic atresias but not reported in association with isolated multiple colonic atresias. A case of pyloric atresia occurring in association with multiple colonic atresias is being reported here.
متن کاملThe Combination of Gastroschisis, Jejunal Atresia, and Colonic Atresia in a Newborn
We encountered a rare case of gastroschisis associated with jejunal atresia and colonic atresia. In our case, the jejunal atresia was not discovered for 27 days after the initial abdominal wall closure. The colonic atresia was not discovered for 48 days after initial repair of the gastroschisis secondary to the rarity of the disorder. Both types of atresia were repaired with primary hand-sewn a...
متن کاملColonic atresia and anorectal malformation in a Haitian patient: a case study of rare diseases
INTRODUCTION Colonic atresia and anorectal malformation are rare congenital anomalies individually. Few reports of the conditions combined in a single patient have been published in the literature. Neither colonic atresia, anorectal malformation or a combination of the disorders has previously been reported in the Haitian population. CASE PRESENTATION A 5-day-old female presented with feculen...
متن کاملColonic Atresia: Association with Other Anomalies
BACKGROUND Colonic atresia (CA) is a rare form of congenital intestinal atresia. Although CA may be isolated, it is more commonly reported in literature in association with other congenital anomalies. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study is a review of prospectively collected data of all the patients with colonic atresia presented to our center (Ain Shams University) during 2008 to 2016. RESULT...
